ABSTRACT
The assessment is a critical component in the treatment of an abusive man. During this time he begins to learn about abuse and its impact on his own and others' lives. Ideally, this process determines the extent of the problem and what type of intervention is most appropriate. The intake phase in this model is significantly longer and more involved than the process used in many batterers' programs. Intakes generally involve four to six individual sessions of fifty minutes but may, with certain individuals, take even longer.
