Real estate is one of many avenues offering investment opportunities. Unlike stocks and shares, direct investment in property requires substantial sums of money even where part of the purchase price is funded by a lender. Alternatively, indirect investment by acquiring shares in property companies, insurance companies and similar businesses reduces the need for such large capital sums.
