ABSTRACT
The language one chooses to use whether in the Target Language (TL) or English will play a huge role in student's response, either in the classroom and the corridors, or from feedback in our marking. While observing other teachers, consider the language they used with the students. It is also really important to reflect upon our own levels of literacy. While thinking about the type of language used by teachers to explain, question and give feedback, it is pertinent to consider that what is suggested in this chapter could also be used in the TL. Learning a foreign language is difficult for many students, especially as they have to think in a different way to what they are use to. If you continue to give positive praise, you will find that students will respond to that. Good questioning is what is required to be able to build on the student's knowledge of the concepts and skills that they are learning.
