ABSTRACT
The purpose of this paper is to look at two influential political science thinkers, Tocqueville and Mill, and to investigate the implications of their thinking for developmental psychology, particularly developmental child psychology. The eventual focus will be on the genesis of what might be called the spirit of liberty.
