ABSTRACT
There are several methods of assessing the technical validity of adolescents’ MMPI-A and MMPI-A-RF profiles. These methods involve the individual and configural interpretation of standard validity scale findings, and may extend to include an analysis of the overall profile configuration for evidence of atypical response set features. Because the majority of MMPI-A-RF validity scales represent shortened counterparts to corresponding MMPI-A validity scales, and because the validity scale interpretation process is similar for both instruments, this chapter will present the validity scales for both tests. On the MMPI-A, validity measures were developed which are the Variable Response Inconsistency (VRIN) and True Response Inconsistency (TRIN) scales, and the F
scales. The inclusion of these four new validity scales at the beginning of the MMPI-A Basic Scale profile (in conjunction with reordering L, F, and K to F, L, and K) is among the most readily apparent changes associated with this revision of the instrument.
