ABSTRACT

This chapter attempts to reconsider the practice and theory of Fengshui (geomancy) – a kind of ‘local knowledge’ – from philosophy of science. Meanwhile, it proves an analyzable case for the study of local knowledge issues. This chapter focuses on the exploration of practice characteristics of Fengshui by PSP as the tool of analysis, rather than appealing to whether ancient Chinese local knowledge is a science, or whether it contains a scientific component. We are not going to affirm scientific status of Fengshui, nor do we accuse practice activity of Fengshui without the understanding of its situation. We aim to test this Chinese traditional culture and to find out whether our long-term practice of dwelling activities lie in a reasonable practical knowledge and the reason for their mysterious trend, from the view of local knowledge in PSP. We just want to strip of their mysterious cloak, and to untie the practical characteristics.
