ABSTRACT
A growing portion of world GDP is reflected in the increased value of intellectual property rights. This chapter reviews the basics of intellectual property law in the U.S. It then reviews intellectual property rights protections found in international and regional conventions and agreements, and reviews a sample of foreign national intellectual property laws. The major intellectual property law regimes include patent, trademark, and copyright. The areas of trade secrets, software, and database protections will also be examined.
