1. Explain the range of speech, language and communication difficulties (expressive, receptive, etc.) and additional factors such as attention span, social skills and sometimes, general developmental delay (see page 1). You might actively involve colleagues in this by giving out a 'sorting activity' of all the various ways that SLCD can manifest. (Use the grid on page 83 and perhaps ask colleagues to prioritise those factors that are the most challenging to identify and/or deal with; or ask them which behaviours they have observed in children they teach.)
