ABSTRACT

Peer coaching is its own model of professional development. However, certain components of the model have been adapted in practice and play an integral part in other models of professional development. Regardless of its form, all coaching models and confi gurations share at least one practice-a belief in conversations. In this chapter, a brief overview of the major models of coaching is presented and then the focus shifts to the peer coaching model as developed by Joyce and Showers (1981, 1982). This chapter is an important one because all models of professional development benefi t from peer and other forms of coaching.
