ABSTRACT

In this chapter I will consider the difference between consensual sexual play and the sexual abuse that took place in some boys’ boarding schools. Although sexual games and even sexual abuse took place in girls’ schools, it seems that it was less prevalent than in boys’ schools. This may have been partly because of the strictures of which we have read. When it happened, however, it was no less emotionally damaging than with boys. Here we will examine the long-term psychological consequences of sexualised activity on men who as boys grew to maturity in the institution.
