ABSTRACT

Less than a week after I posted my recruitment announcement on the Diabulimia Awareness Facebook page, I reached my goal of 25 participants. This community of women, who had recovered from eating disorders in T1DM, shared a genuine desire to tell their stories. They were keenly aware that their perspectives had not yet been given a voice. They wanted to help others in the grips of the eating disorder they had recovered from, but they also wanted to help loved ones feeling helpless and not knowing what to do. Finally, they wanted to try to educate healthcare professionals – not just to raise awareness of this issue but also to try to teach them how best to intervene and the mistakes to try to avoid. I continue to be grateful for their generosity and wisdom.
