ABSTRACT
I will have to admit that I’ve changed my mind as to an appropriate energy strategy since the publication of the first edition. The objectives of an energy strategy have not changed, but the overall strategic goal has. I have become convinced that we are on Easter Island. I do not believe that climate change is even a relevant issue. The relevant issue is that we are exhausting our fossilfuel resources at an alarming rate. As a case in point, we have long since exhausted our reserves of anthracite coal-exhaustion of resources can occur. This was not fatal as vast quantities of a second-rate substitute, bituminous coal, were available.
