ABSTRACT

The ‘model of diplomacy’ concept is not particularly prevalent in the literature on foreign policy and diplomacy. Better known concepts include ‘Models of Democracy’ (Held 1996), ‘Models of Capitalism’ (Hall and Soskice 2001) and ‘Models of Welfare States’ (Esping-Andersen 1990), which all underline the point that there are many ways in which a country can organize itself politically and economically and that it is impossible a priori to predict which of the models performs best. The same applies to models of diplomacy.
