ABSTRACT
IN the autumn of 1926 I published a book, The Dragon and the Foreign Devils, 1 in which I described on the one hand my impressions of travel during twelve years in the service of the Chinese Government, on the other the tumultuous history of China after the revolution and the beginning of the Chinese Renaissance, which has proceeded so vigorously since that time.
