ABSTRACT

The heuristic nature of the coaching process makes it a messy business. As described in Chapter 2, your role in this process is analogous to that of a guide: someone who helps clients navigate through a confusing jungle of ideas, thoughts, needs, wants, goals, and actions that confront them until they reach their destination. The path taken on this journey is not straight, nor is the journey generally completed in a single conversation. The Foursquare Coaching Framework is a structure that maps the process of the coaching conversation so that you can navigate its changing landscape, but it does not account for the overall relational factors that affect the coaching process, generally. In other words, the FsCF functions within a broader context that consists of the professional relationship between coach and client. This is known as the Coaching Alliance.
