ABSTRACT

Now that you have an understanding of your own cycle of addiction, it is important to begin to think about how you can break it. There are numerous points at which you can interrupt the cycle in order to ensure that you do not repeat your addictive behaviours. In general, the earlier you interrupt the cycle, the better. Once the arousal chemistry starts to build, it shuts down your ability to think about the consequences of the actions and it therefore becomes harder to find a way out of the inevitable. For this reason, it is important to take early avoiding actions so that you are not overwhelmed by the arousal chemistry. The more it builds up, the more difficult it is to break free. This chapter looks at some of the key ways in which you can break your addiction cycle.
