ABSTRACT

Kingdom that, because of the apparent link between cardiovas

cular disease and soft waters (Shaper, Clayton, and Morris,

1974) , softening should no longer be performed as part of

water treatment. It is not, therefore, the practice to carry

out softening on any new sources of potable water, but if

extensions are being made to existing treatment plants, the

full former treatment may be applied if it is required.
