The figure also demonstrates why so many waterworks along the
Rhine have carried out extensive studies to develop more
sophisticated and advanced treatment steps for obtaining a
high-quality drinking water. In most cases these processes
include ozonation and carbon filtration, and are known, for
instance, as the Diisseldorf or the Mulheim process.
