ABSTRACT
The Safe Drinking Water Act (P.L. 93-523) directed the
administrator of the EPA to arrange with the National Acad
emy of Sciences or other appropriate organizations to con
duct a study to determine the adverse effects on health
attributable to contaminants in drinking water. The report
of the study has been completed and is now available from
the academy. The report is rather lengthy (more than 900
pages), perhaps too lengthy, but reflects the large number
of topics and substances that it was necessary to consider.
