DRUGS AFFECTING THE PITUITARY GLAND Table 56.1 lists the hormones produced by the anterior and posterior pituitary and their functions. As you can see, trophic hormones from the pituitary gland control the functions of the thyroid, adrenal cortex and gonads. Therefore, trophic hormones can be used to stimulate the activity of these dependent glands when endogenous stimulation is diagnosed as inadequate.
