ABSTRACT
It is ironical in an age when unemployment is the bane of industrial societies that certain jobs may place excessive demands on the worker. However, the overloading that an operator may be subject to is of a mental kind, not physical as would be the case a generation or two ago. Indeed we are told that with the age of information technology we are at the threshold of yet more dramatic changes in the nature of work.
