ABSTRACT
The book explains the importance of image and the way it contrasted with the reality of Thatcher's political career. It provides a balanced assessment of Thatcher as an historical figure and after her death; it has the advantage of greater distance from the controversies of her career. The book traces the development of her personality, values and goals and examines the ways in which she wielded power during 1980s. It discusses Thatcher's growing hostility towards the process of European integration that was viewed by many of her natural supporters as the greatest missed opportunity of her government. The book focuses on Thatcher as an individual viewed in the context of her times that have impact on events. It explains the nature of her legacy for her party, the nature of government of Britain and the making of public policy.
