ABSTRACT

Given the economic crisis of the past few years, there’s no better place than the courthouse, particularly bankruptcy court, to find great business stories. Businesses and individuals have been filing for bankruptcy-court protection in record numbers, and the stories of how they got there are terrific. Bankruptcy cases in recent years have run the gamut from the Phoenix Coyotes hockey team to newspaper owners to the producers of the Terminator film series. In the 12 months ended September 30, 2015, the number of bankruptcy cases totaled 860,182, according to the administrative office of the U.S. Courts, with business cases totaling 24,985.
