ABSTRACT

In the last chapter we explored the reasons to build an imperative to consider animals in disasters. Assuming one is convinced, then one must be able to understand animal need, plan accordingly and deliver the right measures to save and protect animal life. Within disaster response, intrinsic is aligning with existing efforts for people in disasters both for efficiency and efficacy. This chapter addresses the basic understanding a disaster responder should have of the principles and mechanisms of disaster management and how the animal issues are both perceived and currently managed.
