ABSTRACT
From the end of November 1962 to mid-March 1963, hostile parishes gathered in groups to discuss the emergency, to demand the outlawing of kuru and repair of the sexual imbalance. Reputed sorcerers made public confessions of their past activities, and Big Men appealed to sorcerers still in hiding to come forth and relinquish their evil practices. All other social events came to a halt.
