ABSTRACT
His portrayal of the tone and style of the social world in modern, urban/industrial societies may be quite just for the majority of occasions and inhabitants of this world. The family interactions that will be described below certainly seem to fit Goffman’s portrayal. Even so, his analysis is hardly the last word. For one thing, there is probably a minority of persons in our society, even a sizeable minority, whose bonds are in large part secure, or at least, have significant moments of security.
