ABSTRACT
The draft Statement declared that we were taking seriously our whole world, seeking nothing less than to transcend the old Cold War politics, domestic and international. Many of us, propelled by the civil-rights movement, felt that we must speak of the necessity and possibility of building an intelligently overarching, fluent, multi-issue, participatory democratic movement to change that whole old world.
