ABSTRACT
Several of the older mixed Asian American women I interviewed were first-generation immigrants to the United States and had spent significant portions of their lives in Asia. Their responses to the interview questions provide insights into the status and treatment of multiracial Asians in Asian countries as well as a basis for comparison with their counterparts’ treatment the United States. Their stories illustrate the global aspect of the construction of race and the lingering impact of colonialism on racial hierarchies.
