ABSTRACT

A key to achieving morphing states within architecture, is to better understand the between-ness of spatial configurations. And for this, the art and science of origami serves as a wonderful vehicle by which to explore and evolve the transience of architecture. In fact, by aiming for better transience, both architectural beauty and function can be heightened as dynamic states become leveraged through scientific laws, skillful talents and ingenious applications. While beautiful in its own right, advancements in origami can teach designers of the built environment how to design for morphing spaces – a critical quality to design correctly in adaptive architecture.
