ABSTRACT

Capital Cooling Ltd is a refrigeration and air conditioning engineering small to medium sized enterprise (SME) that has grown economically but also in terms of its reputation for its sustainability/CSR innovations (James 2015). The firm’s product offerings feature an expanded range of sustainably designed refrigeration and air conditioning equipment – without compromising on quality (James 2015). The company steadfastly holds true to the four guiding tenets of its organisational ethos:

To develop and provide refrigeration products and services which have no negative impact on our planet

To operate in a sustainable manner at all times by reducing waste and energy usage

To support and contribute to the success of the local community and the country as a whole

To improve the working lives of employees by offering training support and rewards

Capital Cooling’s commitment to sustainability has led to the company being awarded the coveted accolade of the ACR News Contractor of the Year Award 2011, as well as the following: Finalist RAC Cooling Industry Contractor of the Year Award 2011, Finalist Vision in Business for the Environment Awards 2011 and Finalist Scottish Business Awards 2011 (James 2015). The firm’s senior management view receipt of industry accolades was a significant milestone in the history of the organisation and an affirmation of Capital Cooling’s sustainability/CSR leadership credentials in the use of environmentally friendly refrigerants:

The ACR Award for Contractor of the Year 2011 that we won was collected by one of my colleagues Nick McCracken. One of my fondest memories was seeing him with that big smiling face proudly lifting the trophy. Unfortunately I could not attend due to family commitments 124however I was quite proud that we actually won that particular award. The next award we were up for was the Cooling Industry Award we were really placed in with some of the giants of the refrigeration and air conditioning industry the fact that we actually got to be a finalist is an award within itself and I was also very proud of achieving that milestone.
