ABSTRACT

Chapter 13 follows the mythical history of Crete under Minos and his successors, also covering the birth and earlier life of Theseus prior to his ascent to the Athenian throne, the histories of Crete and Athens being closely intertwined at this point. After an account has been offered of the death of Minos, resulting from the flight of Daidalos and Icaros, the mythology of his brothers Sarpedon and Rhadamanthys is examined, and then the myths associated with his son Glaucos and his successors Catreus, Deucalion, and Idomoneus.
