ABSTRACT
Command of the sea and its modern derivatives sea control and sea denial are abstractions, a set of ideas. How they are understood and put into practice will depend on the circumstances of the time, on the strategic context, on the technology available and so on. These can result in very different interpretations of the basic idea.
