ABSTRACT
The Antioche has attracted critical attention as a supposedly unique creation: a chanson de geste that takes (relatively) contemporary reality as its subject. Even leaving aside the arguments about Richard le Pèlerin, no other French chanson de geste directly portrays recorded historical events in quite this way.
