ABSTRACT

PhD fellows form the base of the academic organisation, and this base is expanding. They are to be trained, but also socialised and assessed in terms of a potential research career.1

Several studies of the ways in which PhD fellows assimilate academic culture have been undertaken (Gerholm and Gerholm 1992, Abbel 2000, 2003, Ehn and Löfgren 2004). These studies do not concern emotions and the emotional culture of Academia.
