ABSTRACT
Religion plays a central role in the lives of the Karanga. Three types can be discerned
namely traditional religion, mainline Christianity and independent churches. Religion
comprises various elements which are interlinked with political, economic, social
and cultural aspects.1 It is the basis of the health and welfare of the people.
