ABSTRACT
This chapter provides an introduction to the key themes of the book, covering the development of intermodal transport and its increasing priority in government policy. The chapter also explores the growing attention given to intermodal transport in academic studies of freight transport, with a particular focus on the terminal’s role as a node within the intermodal transport network.
