ABSTRACT

In my work with UK professional service firms, I have found that these Lean/re-engineering techniques can be readily applied. A lot of my re-engineering work in the last ten years has been with major UK law firms. And since legal processes have often not been systematically reviewed or improved for decades, the level of improvements in individual processes can be major. I have personally experienced direct cost reductions of 25-50 per cent as readily achievable (and sometimes significantly more) in legal processes, without significant capital investment. This is enabled by applying re-engineering and Lean techniques to processes and the supporting organisation.
