ABSTRACT

The overarching premise of this book has been that safety leadership is not a hierarchical duty but in fact a role that falls to each and every one of us, no matter who we are, or where we stand in the corporate structure. Along our journey through these pages we’ve discussed various elements that make up what we refer to as safety culture including beliefs, values, behaviours, leadership and much more. After reading this book I hope you’ll agree that improving the culture of safety in an organization is neither an onerous nor a necessarily diffi cult task. It begins with us getting out there and being proactive: with a pragmatic, proportionate approach to managing risks, a degree of mindfulness and a range of ‘soft skills’ with those

around us to build positive change that has signifi cant and sustainable impact.
