ABSTRACT

In other chapters of this book we’ve talked about the power of observation. When we refl ected on the work of Elton Mayo and his research team at the Hawthorne factory of Western Electric, we saw that the act of observation was enough in its own right to cause a short-term improvement in performance. However as this book is designed to be a practical guide to improving your safety culture, I’m not about to suggest that you should have people standing around watching others all day every day!
