ABSTRACT
Mary (aged eight) said she lived on a pig farm, and that she didn’t live in the countryside because the farm wasn’t the countryside. Mary explained that the farm wasn’t the countryside because it wasn’t peaceful: there were noisy animals – the pigs – and there was also the noise of the ‘combine tractor’. She said that the countryside was the fields. 1
