ABSTRACT

How Bourdieu’s school of cultural capital conceptualises social class, has been partly discussed above. Given the relevance of this issue, however, it is well to consider the following statement:

the structure of the distribution of the capital among the various directors (dirigeants) of the firm, that is, between owners and ‘functionaries’ – managers – and, among these latter, between the holders of different species of cultural capital: predominantly financial, technical or commercial, that is to say, in the French case, between the various elite corps and the schools where they received their training: the Ecole Nationale d’Administration, the Ecole Polytechnique or the Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales (Bourdieu 2005).
