ABSTRACT
First entry into a new workplace, and especially first entry into the world of work, can be stressful. Buddying helps people deal with this. Apart from someone to talk to, you also know there is someone looking out for you in this new environment. Where the buddies are both new entrants they can pool what each other is learning about the organization. Their experiences, or the way they make sense of those experiences, will be different even if they are being taken through the same induction. It is the benefit of gaining a different perspective which can be so valuable, especially when you have the opportunity, as with a buddy, to talk through your different perspectives. The result will be a much richer understanding of the organization, and it will be gained much more quickly.
