ABSTRACT

Upon many probable and reasonable inducements, used unto sundry of the chiefest merchants of Bristol by Master Richard Hakluyt, prebendary of St. Augustines 1 the Cathedral Church of the said citie, after divers meetings and due consultation, they resolved to set forth a voyage for the farther discoverie of the north part of Virginia. And first they sent the said Master Hakluyt, accompanied with one Master John Angell and Master Robert Saltern (which had beene in the said discoverie the yeere before with Captain Bartholomew Gosnold) to obtain permission of Sir Walter Raleigh (which had a most ample patent for all those partes from Queen Elizabeth 1 ) to entermeddle and deale in that action.
