ABSTRACT
Considering what is really new in the emerging new stage of capitalism, this chapter attempts to deeper investigate the major characteristics and development trends of contemporary capitalism, and it is these elements which lead to an essential characterization of the totalitarian capitalism under constitution. This discussion starts from an analysis of current technological transformations. in the preceding chapters we have already touched upon this issue and its relation with the presumably increasing immateriality of labour. in Chapter 5, we will take up this issue again, exploring more generally the character and the determinants or preconditions of technological developments, as well as the role of technology in the process of superseding capitalism. Here, however, we need to more specifically stress the role of technology and the new technological revolution in the current epoch-making transformation of capitalism, as well as the dialectical interconnections of technological developments with the other major trends of the emerging new stage of totalitarian capitalism.
