This may be perceived among the nerdiest chapters of the book. However, the content has merit (there is method to the madness). Strategy is critical to success for any aspiring company-more especially middle market private equity portfolio companies. The credibility of the practical points in this chapter is undergirded with research from branded luminaries. One useful way to digest the content of this chapter may be within the simple “plan, do, check, act” quality principles whose roots trace to Dr. Edwards Deming and Dr. Walter A. Shewhart.2 Essentially, this compels practitioners to memorialize a roadmap, follow the roadmap, monitor it relative to expected results, and take corrective actions as needed.
