ABSTRACT

In Chapter 4 we saw how the data, information, knowledge (DIK) hierarchy has shaped thinking on the nature and sources of knowledge. Although we, and many other academics and practitioners, have expressed doubt and criticism about the basic assumptions of the model and also the effect it has had on management, and knowledge management in particular, its paradigmatic influence remains strong. With the advent of big data and analytics the influence of data on management practice is likely to grow stronger.
