ABSTRACT

Professionals are urged to become advocates, helping to professionalize the practice as an influential addition to human healthcare. This chapter also summarizes the importance of clarifying terminology, scope of practice, and competency requirements, collaborating with other professionals, and protecting the industry as a whole. It guides readers towards important next steps for the industry, including establishing a research agenda and better attending to the needs of the horses.
