Sex-delinquency in women is a mode of misconduct fairly well defined; it is common in its incidence as it is baffling in its response to treatment. It seems, then, to be a social problem which calls, perhaps more urgently than any other, for intensive study . . . The passion for a particular man, or for male company, is an obvious consequence of the girl who is over-sexed; and leads easily to prostitution. Often, however, the chief motive is simply a passion for some selfish form of pleasure or the sheer absence of any ennobling passion whatsoever.
