ABSTRACT

Stephanie is a 21-year-old Native American junior who is majoring in psychology with an emphasis on neuroscience and minoring in neurobiology. She plans to apply to medical school. The psychology courses she has taken have focused on the biological bases of behavior, which she enjoys because she considers the biological approach to be objective, scientific, and universally applicable. She is taking a multicultural psychology course to fulfill a campus multicultural requirement. Stephanie is somewhat skeptical of this course and considers cultural issues to be peripheral influences on behavior and views the study of race and ethnicity to have political overtones.
