ABSTRACT

The firms described in the previous chapter were reinterviewed in the spring and summer of 1992. Because the background of each firm was described fully in the preceding chapter, the updates are relatively brief and focus on those areas that were viewed as key or strategic for each firm. It is worth noting that not all firms survived the year or more between interviews with unchanged legal form and enterprise structure. This close-up view of the disappearance or metamorphosis of Hungarian firms is both poignant and instructive for understanding the transformation process at a microlevel.
